Presidential staffer Nana Yaa Jantuah has stated that Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Jean Mensa failed to meet the expectations many had when she replaced Charlotte Osei.
Speaking on the *JoyNews AM Show*, Jantuah said, “Let’s be very truthful, Jean changed.” Reflecting on her initial support for Mensa, Jantuah explained, "I was in IPAC, and even though I wasn’t happy with how Charlotte was treated, I was hopeful when I heard Jean would take over, especially because of her connection to the IEA. But it turned out to be something else."
Jantuah revealed that she initially defended Mensa, believing that external forces might be influencing her actions. “I used to make excuses for her,” she admitted. “I even thought she was being... she looked so afraid. She had all these military men around her. I didn’t see that around Afari-Gyan or Charlotte. But with her, it was like she was always jittery, almost shaking.”
The presidential staffer also criticized the EC's handling of the 2024 election results, particularly the delays in announcing the final results. “In 2024, political parties had already announced their results, yet hers wasn’t out,” Jantuah said. “Bawumia came out quickly. If he didn’t have the mechanism to get the results, how was he going to concede? Meanwhile, Jean took almost five days.”
Jantuah concluded that these delays and the overall behavior of the EC under Mensa’s leadership contributed to a loss of trust in the electoral process. “Jean has misbehaved, whether we like it or not,” she stated.
