NPP’s Ellen Ama Daaku Criticizes Young Cybercriminals for Flaunting Wealth

Ellen Ama Daaku, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has sharply criticized young cybercriminals for their reckless display of wealth, saying it makes it easier for authorities to track and apprehend them.

Speaking on Angel FM, Ms. Daaku drew from her father’s example of disciplined wealth management to emphasize the importance of responsible financial behavior. She recounted how her father worked his way up step by step and only indulged in luxury, like purchasing a Mercedes, once he retired from his position as managing director. “My father’s life is what I am using as an example. He progressed in life, moving a step at a time, spending within his means,” she explained.

Ms. Daaku expressed concern over the flashy online behavior of some young people, particularly those as young as 22, who boast about their lavish lifestyles on social media. She pointed to the case of Abu Trica, the recent suspect arrested for cybercrime, who used platforms like TikTok to display his wealth and personal life with his baby mama. “These young boys and girls are flaunting expensive cars and other assets online. Where do they get this money from?” she asked, expressing her worry about the negative influence this creates for others.

She also pointed out that not all cybercriminals are easily identified, noting that some educated individuals engage in scams but do so quietly, without the need for public flaunting. “I’m sure we have other educated people involved in cybercrime, but because of their level of education, they won’t come and flaunt it on social media. Abu Trica, however, was not educated, and his lifestyle made it all too obvious,” she said.

Commenting on the consequences of such behavior, Ms. Daaku said, “They deserve to be arrested because they are foolish. It takes a foolish scammer to show off their wealth. If they had invested their money wisely, it would have been harder for authorities to track them down. But because they were foolish, they didn't do anything productive with it.”
