Dr. (Mrs.) Stella Agyenim-Boateng, Vice-Chair of the Public Services Commission (PSC), has urged female police officers to focus on collaboration rather than competition in order to leverage their collective talents and effectively meet the demands of modern policing.
She made these remarks while serving as the Guest of Honour and Keynote Speaker at the inauguration of the Accra Regional Chapters of the Police Ladies’ Association (POLAS) on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.
Dr. Agyenim-Boateng described the inauguration as a major milestone for the empowerment and professional development of women in the Ghana Police Service. She emphasized that the initiative was an important step towards inclusivity and advocacy for women in the police force. She also acknowledged the ongoing support from the Police Administration, which she said underscored the growing recognition of the role women play in the service.
Reflecting on the history of women in the Police Service, she noted that since their inclusion in 1952, the number of female officers has grown significantly, with about 13,671 women currently serving nationwide. She commended POLAS for its contributions to welfare, leadership development, and mentorship since its establishment in 1989.
The theme of the event, “Harnessing the Collective Talents and Potentials of Police Ladies for Effective Policing,” resonated with Dr. Agyenim-Boateng, who emphasized the importance of empowering policewomen in today’s rapidly evolving policing environment, where crime is becoming more sophisticated and technology-driven.
Dr. Agyenim-Boateng urged members to embrace mentorship, continuous learning, and teamwork, cautioning against internal rivalry and isolation. She also encouraged the women to reject stereotypes and confidently pursue leadership roles within the force.
Looking ahead, she announced that the PSC is ready to collaborate with POLAS on initiatives focused on leadership and human resource development. She also invited the association to participate in the upcoming Conference of Women Leaders in the Public Service, scheduled for February 2026.
In closing, Dr. Agyenim-Boateng congratulated POLAS on its successful inauguration and wished the members a fruitful and productive year ahead in 2026.
