Sarkodie Reflects on the Price of Success: "It Cost Me a Number of Friends"

Renowned rapper Sarkodie has opened up about the personal sacrifices he’s made on his journey to fame, revealing that success has come at the expense of several friendships.

Speaking to Hitz FM in Accra, Sarkodie explained that despite his rise to fame, he has managed to remain grounded and true to himself. However, he noted that some people distance themselves from him, believing that his success has changed who he is.

“Many friends, certain people, no matter how much I’ve become Sarkodie, think I can’t be Michael,” he shared. “I want to be Michael, but they think I can’t be, so they start changing before you. This fame thing doesn’t really get to me, but people assume that it should, and that’s when they begin to act differently.”

Sarkodie emphasized that while fame hasn’t altered his sense of self, the perception of it by others has led to the loss of a few relationships. He remains steadfast in his commitment to authenticity, despite the challenges success has brought along the way.
