A Nigerian woman travelling from Abuja to Imo State has taken to social media to share her ordeal after being trapped for several hours in a severe traffic jam along the Abuja–Lokoja highway.
In a video posted on TikTok by a user identified as @celes_icmhomes, the visibly exhausted traveller explained that she left her home as early as 6:00 a.m., yet remained on the road late into the night due to an unrelenting gridlock.
According to her account, the congestion occurred along the Lokoja axis, where countless private vehicles and commercial buses were completely immobilised, with little to no movement for hours. The video, shared around 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2025, captured a long stretch of vehicles filled with stranded and weary passengers.
Overlaying the clip, she wrote:
“Who says nobody travels by road again? Abuja to Lokoja, since morning we’re still on the road. When will I even reach Imo State?”
When viewers asked what caused the traffic, the lady responded in the comments that there was no visible reason for the gridlock.
The clip quickly went viral, drawing a mix of humour and concern from social media users. While some joked about the stress of festive travel — with one commenter quipping, “Before you reach, Christmas will be over” — others expressed frustration at the unpredictability of road journeys during peak periods.
Many users also shared similar experiences, noting that long-distance travel by road during the Christmas season has become increasingly exhausting and unreliable.
Beyond the humour, the video has reignited broader conversations about the state of Nigeria’s highways, particularly during festive seasons. Concerns over traffic management, road conditions, and security — including the risk of kidnappings and attacks on major routes — were once again brought to the forefront as travellers brace for the holiday rush.
As Christmas travel intensifies across the country, the viral clip serves as a stark reminder of the challenges many Nigerians continue to face on long road journeys.
