Theophilus Dzimega, a lawyer and member of the NDC Communication Team, has defended the government’s handling of fuel pricing concerns, insisting that decisions were guided by economic realities rather than delay.
Speaking on TV3’s New Day, Dzimega dismissed claims that the government acted too slowly following the recent cabinet meeting chaired by President John Dramani Mahama. He maintained that the response was timely and carefully considered.
According to him, fuel levies play a critical role in financing key sectors of the economy, making immediate reductions difficult without identifying alternative revenue sources. Removing such taxes, he explained, would create funding gaps that must first be addressed.

Dzimega also noted that fluctuations in global oil prices do not automatically lead to instant reductions at the pump. He emphasized that price adjustments take time, as market changes must stabilize before consumers experience any significant relief.
