Ibrahim Bashiru, former Deputy CEO of the Youth Employment Agency, has raised concerns about growing public dissatisfaction with President John Mahama’s administration, citing economic hardship and rising unemployment.
Speaking on TV3’s New Day, Bashiru stated that despite government assurances, many Ghanaians continue to struggle with the high cost of living. According to him, conditions on the ground reflect widespread frustration, with citizens finding it increasingly difficult to meet basic needs.
He further highlighted the financial pressure on students and questioned the government’s job creation record, claiming it contradicts earlier campaign promises. Bashiru alleged that some young workers were dismissed despite pledges to expand employment opportunities.

Additionally, he challenged official job creation figures presented in the State of the Nation Address, pointing to inconsistencies across institutions. Bashiru also criticized the widely discussed 24-hour economy policy, arguing that its actual framework lacks clarity and does not match how it is publicly promoted.
