Acting Chose Me, I Didn’t Choose It — Qwasi Blay Jnr

Ghanaian actor Qwasi Blay Jnr has revealed that his journey into acting was never part of his original plans, saying the profession found him unexpectedly while he pursued other ambitions.

Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime, the actor said he never set out to become an actor.

“I would say acting chose me. I didn’t choose it at all,” he stated.

According to him, his early aspirations were far removed from the entertainment industry. He said he once dreamed of becoming a footballer and a lawyer, adding that his principled nature often made people describe him as strict in the way he spoke.

Qwasi Blay Jnr explained that his path into acting changed during his senior high school days when he represented his school in a pageant and later found himself taking on a lead role in a drama production.

“The actor who was supposed to play the lead wasn’t available,” he recalled. “My drama teacher asked me to try the role, and on the day of the performance, I delivered.”

He described the experience as a turning point, noting that after the performance, the school’s chaplain encouraged him to pursue acting seriously.

“He told me to continue on that path and not to change,” Qwasi Blay Jnr said. “That was how my acting journey began.”

Despite stepping into an industry known for its uncertainties, the actor said he had no clear expectations at the start of his career.

“If I say I had expectations, I would be lying,” he admitted. “I was simply trusting the process and allowing God to guide me.”

He acknowledged experiencing moments of doubt but said his faith keeps him grounded.

“Sometimes I feel lost, like my path disappears,” he explained. “But I’ve come to realize that when the path disappears, it may mean you’re on the right one—you just have to keep moving forward.”
