Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, a member of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, has formally demanded ₦1 billion in damages from Pastor Chris Okafor, founder of Grace Nation International (formerly Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministry). Ogala accuses the pastor of breaching a promise to marry her, a claim that has now escalated into a legal dispute.
### The Legal Action
On December 16, 2025, Ogala’s legal team, Synergy Law Partners, issued a pre-action letter to Pastor Okafor, demanding the ₦1 billion as compensation for both aggravated and general damages. The letter provides a 21-day deadline for payment and warns that failure to comply will result in a lawsuit in a competent court of law.
The lawyers emphasized that although marriage promises are not enforceable by law, Nigerian legal provisions allow for compensation in cases of breach, particularly when such breaches cause significant emotional, reputational, and financial harm.
### The Alleged Relationship and Promise
Ogala claims that her relationship with Pastor Okafor began in 2017, when she sought pastoral guidance from him during a time of marital distress. According to her legal team, Okafor repeatedly promised to marry her, and his actions—such as introducing her to his family, including his children, and inviting her to family events—strengthened her belief in his commitment.
Supporting evidence for Ogala’s claims includes photographs, videos, WhatsApp conversations, and financial records, all of which she argues demonstrate her legitimate expectation of marriage.
### Alleged Detriment and Financial Loss
Ogala asserts that she acted to her detriment by relying on Okafor’s promise. She claims that she ended her previous troubled marriage, choosing not to pursue reconciliation, because she believed a secure future awaited her with the pastor.
She also claims to have transferred ₦45 million to Okafor in one transaction, entrusting him with her finances based on the trust she had in their relationship.
### The Trigger: Public Engagement and Marriage
The dispute intensified when Pastor Okafor publicly announced his engagement and subsequent marriage to another woman, identified as Pearl, on December 16, 2025, in a ceremony held in Lekki, Lagos.
Ogala’s legal team describes this as a "calculated and publicly executed breach" of their agreement, causing her severe emotional distress, psychological harm, and reputational damage, especially given her public figure status.
Additionally, Ogala accuses Okafor of being responsible for the unauthorized circulation of her private photographs, which led to online harassment and victim-shaming.
### Pastor Okafor’s Response
As of December 18, 2025, Pastor Okafor has not publicly responded to the legal demand. Earlier, during a sermon, he addressed similar allegations indirectly, stating that no man would choose to marry an “arrogant” woman.
Efforts to reach Okafor or his representatives for a comment on the legal action have been unsuccessful.
The ongoing controversy has sparked widespread debate on social media, with divided reactions to the actions of both parties involved.
