A female undergraduate from Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), who identifies as a Computer Science student, has sparked a debate after expressing her strict dating criteria centered around financial status.
In a viral video that has since gained widespread attention, the student boldly declared that she cannot date any man who earns less than ₦5 million monthly. According to her, financial stability plays a crucial role in her choice of a partner.
### Financial Status Takes Priority in Relationship Decisions
The TASUED student explained that she considers anyone earning between ₦1 million and ₦2 million per month as “poor,” and therefore unsuitable for a romantic relationship. She further added that men earning below ₦1 million are only appropriate for casual friendships, primarily for when she might need small amounts of emergency funds.
She went on to state her expectations for a partner in a romantic relationship, asserting, "To date me, you must be earning from ₦5 million and above. You give me ₦3 million and keep ₦2 million for yourself."
### Social Media Reacts to Dating Requirements
Her comments quickly gained attention across social media, with many users offering varied opinions. Some have criticized her for setting high financial expectations, while others have supported her stance, with some arguing that everyone is entitled to have their personal criteria for relationships.
In the video, she made her preferences clear: "Those who earn less than ₦2 million monthly are poor. You can be earning ₦1 to ₦2 million monthly and expect to date me. I can only befriend those who earn below ₦1 million, maybe when I need emergency ₦50K or ₦100K, that’s when I’ll message him."
As the video continues to trend, people remain divided over her approach to relationships, with some questioning the role of financial expectations in romantic connections.
