Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, H.E. Victor Emmanuel Smith, has officially begun his diplomatic tenure after presenting his credentials to U.S. President Donald J. Trump at the White House.
The ceremony took place in the Oval Office, where President Trump welcomed 15 newly accredited ambassadors. Ambassador Smith was the first to be called forward, highlighting Ghana’s visibility during the event. The session included a light moment when President Trump remarked, “Look at this good-looking guy,” eliciting laughter and creating a warm, friendly atmosphere.
Ambassador Smith conveyed greetings from President John Dramani Mahama and reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening its longstanding partnership with the United States. He emphasized Ghana’s focus on deepening cooperation in trade, investment, and economic diplomacy.
Describing Ghana as a stable democracy and a strategic commercial gateway, Ambassador Smith highlighted the country’s access to a sub-regional market of over 400 million people and a continental market exceeding 1.4 billion. He also noted Ghana’s role as host of the African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat as an advantage for U.S. businesses seeking entry into African markets.
The Ambassador expressed Ghana’s readiness to expand engagement with American firms, particularly in manufacturing, agribusiness, energy, technology, and services. He also extended an invitation to President Trump to visit Ghana, emphasizing that such a visit would further strengthen bilateral relations.
The credential presentation marks a key milestone in Ambassador Smith’s tenure and signals a renewed phase of U.S.–Ghana engagement across political, economic, and people-to-people ties.
