Government Reaffirms Commitment to Noguchi Memorial Institute

Vice President and academic Professor Jane Opoku-Agyemang has reaffirmed the government’s dedication to supporting the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, describing it as a key pillar of Ghana’s public health system and a respected contributor to global medical science.

“Noguchi continues to be a cornerstone of our national public health response and a global reference point in medical research,” she stated, emphasizing the institute’s critical role in disease surveillance, diagnostics, and scientific innovation.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang acknowledged that resources may be limited but stressed that the government recognizes the institute’s vital work and is committed to providing support to ensure its ongoing progress.

“The government values their work and is prepared to support them, within our capacity, to ensure their research and initiatives continue to advance,” she said.

She also encouraged the institute to maximize the practical impact of its research by expanding its reach throughout Ghana’s healthcare system. According to her, applying scientific findings to real-world health outcomes is essential for improving national healthcare delivery.

“I urged them to continue translating and scaling their research so that its benefits are felt across the health system,” she noted.

Looking ahead, Professor Opoku-Agyemang expressed optimism about a future grounded in partnership, accountability, and tangible outcomes, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among the government, research institutions, and stakeholders.

“We look forward to a stronger future built on collaboration, accountability, and measurable impact,” she added.
