Socrate Safo Reflects on 19 Years of Clashes with Kwasi Aboagye on Radio

Socrate Safo has revealed that the secret behind the success of Kwasi Aboagye's radio career was not agreement but the ongoing, unapologetic conflict that defined their 19-year partnership on-air.

In a post shared on social media following Aboagye's departure from Peace FM and radio broadcasting, Safo opened up about their long-running on-air relationship, which he described as being almost entirely based on disagreement.

"Every Thursday and Saturday, Akwesi would introduce a topic, and I would take a stance that would deeply irritate him," Safo recalled. "That was the high point of the show."

He went on to recount how their debates often led to interruptions, dismissals, and even times when his microphone was abruptly cut off—moments that became iconic for loyal listeners. According to Safo, the tension created a unique form of "appointment radio."

"Some listeners found it entertaining, others irritating, but everyone found it unmissable," Safo noted.

He added that the public's response highlighted the impact of their fiery exchanges. Strangers would often approach him to question Aboagye's treatment of him on-air, while others praised his arguments, even if they were often cut short.

"All of this told me one thing," Safo reflected. "Whatever chaos we were creating for 19 years, we were doing it exceedingly well."

With Aboagye now stepping away from radio, Safo acknowledged that Ghanaian entertainment broadcasting has lost one of its most impactful and engaging forces in public debate.
