Ijoba Lande Accuses Lagos Police Officers of Assault and Theft

Nigerian skit maker and actor Ganiyu Morufu, popularly known as Ijoba Lande, has accused officers of the Area ‘J’ Division of the Lagos State Police Command of assault, unlawful seizure of his mobile phone, and the alleged theft of $1,200 belonging to his brother.

The allegation followed a video the entertainer shared on his verified Facebook page, @Ijoba Lande 1, which has since gone viral on social media.

In the footage, Ijoba Lande was seen with visible injuries around his eyes while people nearby attempted to clean his face with water. The video also showed him inside what appeared to be a police station, where he was reportedly trying to file a formal complaint regarding the incident.

According to the actor, the incident occurred shortly after he returned to Nigeria from the United Kingdom, approximately six days before the video surfaced. However, he did not disclose the exact location or circumstances that led to the alleged confrontation with the police officers.

Ijoba Lande claimed that during the encounter, police officers physically assaulted him, confiscated his iPhone 16 Pro Max, and allegedly took $1,200 in cash belonging to his brother.

Speaking emotionally in the video, he said:

“I returned from the UK six days ago and was attacked and beaten by police officers in Nigeria. They collected my iPhone 16 Pro Max and my brother’s $1,200. I nearly lost my life.”

As of the time of this report, the Lagos State Police Command has not issued an official statement in response to the allegations. The incident has sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians calling for a thorough investigation and accountability.
