Ghanaian journalist and broadcaster Paul Adom-Otchere has asserted that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is acting strategically, citing the recent press conference by the party’s General Secretary, Fiifi Kwetey, as a calculated political move.
Speaking on Good Evening Ghana, Adom-Otchere said the timing of the press conference was more significant than the substance of the announcements made.
“Fiifi Kwetey has been making major announcements, and I’ve been excited about them,” he stated. “Some people even called me to ask how I knew what he was going to announce. I didn’t expect it to happen in January.”
According to Adom-Otchere, the decision to address the media at that moment was driven by prevailing media dynamics rather than coincidence. He explained that political visibility and control of public discourse are critical factors in shaping public perception.
“For the past three weeks, one side of the political divide has dominated the media space,” he observed. “In politics, that matters. When your opponent controls the narrative for an extended period, public attention naturally shifts in their favour.”
He argued that the press conference was a deliberate public relations strategy aimed at restoring balance to the national conversation and reasserting the party’s presence.
“The PR assessment was likely that Fiifi should hold a press conference to restore balance—balance in media discussion, internal party dialogue, and overall political focus,” Adom-Otchere said. “From a communications standpoint, that was the right decision.”
