Grammy Award–winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy was briefly detained by customs officials at a Moroccan airport over issues related to the jewellery he was carrying while en route to Rabat for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Fan Zone concert.
The incident was confirmed by the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, during a press briefing. According to Motsepe, customs officers flagged the artiste after observing the quantity and value of gold jewellery in his possession.
Motsepe explained that the matter required intervention at a senior level before it was resolved amicably. Following the resolution, Burna Boy proceeded with his schedule and successfully headlined the AFCON Fan Zone concert in Rabat on January 16. He performed alongside Ghanaian musician Stonebwoy and Moroccan artistes Stormy and Jaylann.
