The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is today, February 7, 2026, electing its parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso East by-election scheduled for March 3, 2026.
Five aspirants are contesting the party’s slot in what is expected to be a keenly contested internal election. Voting is set to begin at 9:00 a.m. and close at 4:00 p.m. at the Nima Cluster of Schools, located in the constituency capital.
Security for the exercise will be provided by the Ghana Police Service, while the Electoral Commission will supervise the voting process. More than 1,100 delegates are expected to participate in the election.
The aspirants, appearing on the ballot in the following order, are:
Mohammed Ramne – Constituency Chairman
Hajia Amina Adam – Widow of the late Member of Parliament
Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed – Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria
Dr. Yakubu Azindow – Political Scientist
Najib Mohammed Sani
A recent poll conducted by Global Info Analytics identifies Hajia Amina Adam as the frontrunner, with 58 percent support among delegates. Her closest challenger, Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, polled 32 percent.
However, some party supporters within the constituency have questioned the accuracy of the poll, arguing that local dynamics in Ayawaso East may produce a different outcome.
The Ayawaso East parliamentary seat became vacant following the death of the sitting Member of Parliament, Naser Toure Mahama, on January 4, 2026, after a short illness.
