Bodyguard Foils Late-Night Attack on Appeal Court Judge’s Residence

Two young men are under police guard at a hospital following a failed late-night attempt to attack the residence of a Court of Appeal judge in the Ashanti Region.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the Ghana Police Service. The Ashanti Regional Police Command confirmed that the suspects allegedly scaled the perimeter fence of the judge’s property while armed with cutlasses and a pair of scissors.

The suspects have been identified as 23-year-old Patrick Alor and 21-year-old Akwasi Gyamfi. Police reports indicate that the two men attempted to break into the judge’s private vehicle after gaining access to the compound.

However, their actions were detected by a police officer assigned to provide security at the residence. The officer, who was on official protection duty at the time, confronted the suspects. According to preliminary police accounts, the men resisted arrest and allegedly attempted to overpower the officer.

In response to the perceived threat, the officer discharged his firearm, shooting both suspects in the legs. They were subsequently subdued and arrested at the scene.

The injured suspects were transported under heavy police escort to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, where they are currently receiving medical treatment. Hospital sources indicate that both men are in stable condition.

The police have confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing. Authorities are working to determine the motive behind the attempted attack and whether the suspects acted independently or with accomplices.

The swift response of the assigned bodyguard is being viewed as a critical factor in preventing potential harm or property damage. Security measures around judicial officers remain a priority for law enforcement agencies, particularly in light of growing concerns about the safety of members of the judiciary.

The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to protecting judges and other public officials, assuring the public that appropriate legal procedures will be followed once the suspects are discharged from medical care.

Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
