The family of the late Ghanaian gospel musician, Maame Adwoa Tiwaa, has officially announced the date and arrangements for her final burial ceremony, months after her tragic passing. The beloved singer, who was widely known for her role in the renowned Yaw Sarpong and Asomafo music group, will be laid to rest on Saturday, April 11, 2026.
The announcement follows her one-week observation ceremony, which was held on January 7, 2026, at the Bantama Presby School Park in the Ashanti Region. The gathering brought together family members, friends, colleagues in the gospel music industry, and admirers who came to pay their respects and celebrate her life.
Maame Tiwaa passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2025, a loss that sent shockwaves through the Ghanaian music industry and left many fans deeply saddened. The news of her death was confirmed by Nana Poku Ashis, the manager of the Yaw Sarpong and Asomafo music group, who shared the heartbreaking update in an emotional social media post. Along with the announcement, he posted a video of the late singer performing on stage, accompanied by a brief but touching caption expressing grief over her passing.
Prior to her death, the gospel singer remained active in ministry and music. In the weeks leading up to her passing, she performed at the birthday celebration of Apostle Abraham Lamptey of Believers House of Worship, which took place in late October 2025. Earlier that year, she also delivered a memorable performance at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards held at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre in Accra.
For many years, Maame Tiwaa played a significant role in the success of the Yaw Sarpong and Asomafo group. Her powerful voice and dedication to gospel music earned her admiration from audiences across the country. She was also honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of the group, recognizing their immense contribution to Ghana’s gospel music industry.
According to the official obituary poster released by her family, the funeral ceremony will begin with a laying-in-state at Presby Park in Bantama, opposite the Sefah Boakye Hospital. This will be followed by a burial service scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on April 11.
Later in the afternoon, a final funeral rite will take place at the same venue from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., allowing mourners additional time to pay their last respects.
The funeral activities will conclude with a thanksgiving service on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at the Sokoban Ampayoo New Jerusalem Church from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., after which family and sympathizers will continue the memorial gathering in Bantama.
