A Nigerian woman who shared her reason for rejecting a marriage proposal from a foreigner has continued to trend on social media as friends and the public roast her for her decision.
According to a X (formerly Twitter) user, @LouisaChidima, her mother informed her of a relative’s interest in courting her. However, the young lady revealed that she already had a boyfriend at the time and had to reject the marriage proposal.
In her explanation, the young woman shared that she did not embracelong distance relationships and preferred to be with her partner who was close to her.
She further explained that she had been in a six-month relationship and was still a virgin and had decided to be physically close to her partner after the engagement period.
On the post, many netizens were quick to comment on the stand, criticizing her and questioning her decision.
While few appreciated her honesty, others claimed not to understand how a woman could be so self-aware and self-controlled.
Another user commented that not many women would reject a long-distance marriage proposal and called her a “self-controlled woman.”

A X user, Bashirah Adeyemi, wrote, “It’s hard enough being in a long-distance relationship as it is. You have no idea what goes on behind closed doors. Some people get engaged to marry someone they barely know, just because they can’t be together.” Another netizen, Kehinde Shina, simply described her choice as a gamble.
