Minority Leader urges party communicators to counter misinformation with facts while keeping Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's vision front and center
In a warning to his party, the Minority Leader Senator Alexander Afenyo-Markin has asked the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to ready itself for what he described as an aggressive misinformation and disinformation campaign by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2028 general elections in Ghana.
The Effutu Member of Parliament, in a Facebook post on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, accused the ruling party of using "fake news and manufactured distractions" to divert the minds of the people from the issues on which the government has failed and in which he has stood by the truth and will continue to do so.
"This is not new, it is a political tool they have mastered," Senator Afenyo-Markin noted, referring to accusations and allegations the NDC made against him as an opposition Member of Parliament which he said have either been proven to be false or misleading.
Calling for a high level of alertness, the Minority Leader urged NPP members, officers, and communicators to "always remain alert, disciplined and focused" given what he expects will be a barrage of false propaganda intended to mislead Ghanaians on critical issues facing the country.
Additionally, Senator Afenyo-Markin asked those within the NPP ranks to "check the facts, expose the lies quickly and never allow false propaganda to dictate our agenda".
He also urged ordinary Ghanaians to research and fact-check political adverts and claims before sharing them on social media and going as far as advising them to "always remain informed, questioned what we are told and never be distracted from the issues that affect us".
While the Minority Leader asked the NPP to always focus on debunking the false information and propaganda, he urged them to continue to use effective communication to keep the spotlight on the issues, keep the NDC's broken promises in the public eye, and continue to promote the vision and agenda of the party's presidential candidate for the 2024 election, Dr. Mahamud Bawumia.
"Above all, stay on message by promoting Dr Bawumia's vision for Ghana with clarity and conviction while working relentlessly towards victory in 2028," he said.
In his post, which he used to share rallying cries for his men and women in the NPP, Senator Afenyo-Markin listed four key messages to "expose the lies, focus on the issues, promote the vision, and win 2028".
The warning comes as both the NDC and NPP prepare for the next round of presidential and parliamentary elections after the NPP primary elections to choose Afenyo-Markin as their presidential candidate for the 2028 election.
