US Marshals Explain How Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu Was Arrested at Her US Home

The United States Marshals Service has released detailed information on the arrest of Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, a former Chief Executive Officer of Ghana’s Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), following a request made under the US Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

The disclosure was made after a Ghanaian citizen, William Nyarko, formally requested information regarding her arrest. Tamakloe-Attionu had fled Ghana before the High Court concluded her trial, which resulted in her conviction and a 10-year prison sentence in April 2024. She was found guilty of causing financial loss to the state, stealing, conspiracy to steal, money laundering, and breaching the Public Procurement Act.

On January 15, 2026, Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Smith, confirmed that Tamakloe-Attionu had been arrested by US authorities and was being held at the Henderson Detention Center in Nevada, though no further details were provided at the time.

Details of the Arrest

According to documents released by the US Marshals Service, a warrant for Tamakloe-Attionu’s arrest was issued on December 12, 2025, by the US District Court for the District of Nevada. The warrant was based on her status as a fugitive from the Republic of Ghana, following her conviction on embezzlement-related charges and Ghana’s request for extradition.

On January 6, 2026, members of the Nevada Violent Offenders Task Force tracked her movements. At approximately 2:30 p.m., officers positively identified Tamakloe-Attionu when she briefly opened and closed the front door of her residence.

At about 3:05 p.m., officers approached the residence to execute the arrest warrant. After knocking and announcing their presence, Tamakloe-Attionu opened the door and was taken into custody without incident. She was restrained, searched at the scene, and transported to the Federal Courthouse in Las Vegas.

Later that day, she was transferred to the Henderson Detention Center, a facility contracted by the US Marshals Service, where she was held overnight. On January 7, 2026, she was transported back to the Federal Courthouse and formally booked into US Marshals Service custody.

Some names and operational details in the released documents were redacted in line with FOIA provisions. The information was cleared for public release after authorities determined that the redactions adequately protected sensitive law enforcement material.
