The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) is investigating an allegation that a customs officer at Accra International Airport (AIA) demanded GH¢600 from a passenger without providing a receipt for the payment.
The development comes after a video clip of Tik Tok personality Lady Rev. Adwoa Pretty, circulating online, accused the revenue personnel of accepting the money from her without giving her a receipt for the amount paid.
The video, which has since gone viral online, shows beautiful lady confronting the customs officer questioning the basis on which she was charged GH¢600 and demanded a receipt for the sum paid.
It appears the discussion between Lady Rev. Adwoa and the customs officer escalated resulting in the visitor questioning the officer’s integrity.
The GRA has responded to the complaint by acknowledging the video circulating on social media and promised to investigate the complaint.
“The GRA wishes to assure the public that the Authority has commenced investigation into the matter and will update the general public on the findings when completed,” the GRA stated in a press release.
The GRA, however, declined to identify the customs officer and did not give details regarding the nature of the investigation and whether the money paid would be refunded.
The Authority also stated that it has been operating on the principles of integrity, accountability, and professionalism and will continue to do so.
“The GRA remains committed to upholding integrity, accountability, and professionalism in the discharge of its mandate,” the GRA added.
