A violent chieftaincy dispute in Gomoa Obuasi, located in the Central Region, has left six individuals injured, including Agya Amoh, the head of the Asona Royal Family. The altercation took place when a youth group aligned with one faction launched an attack on their rivals during a meeting within the community, resulting in significant property damage.
According to Citi News sources, the Omanhene of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Council, Obrempong Nyanful Krampah, who holds jurisdiction over Gomoa Obuasi, recently appointed Kwabena Atta as the caretaker chief following the death of the previous leader. However, the town’s Regent has refused to relinquish control to the caretaker chief, leading to ongoing tensions and conflicts.
"We were preparing for a meeting when, without warning, we saw stones being thrown at us from outside between 9 and 10 a.m. Several roofs of the palace were damaged, along with two vehicles," explained Nana Mbir Asomako. "The attackers have claimed that they are not afraid of the police and will continue to terrorize us. We also received intelligence that they planned to set the entire place on fire, so we decided to vacate the palace for safety. The police have been informed about the situation."
