ASEM KESE3: KNUST Investigates Tragic Death of Final-Year Student; Suspect Arrested

Authorities at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) are currently investigating the tragic death of Miss Joana Deladem Yabani, a final-year Biological Sciences student, whose body was found near the KNUST Disability and Rehabilitation Centre at dawn on February 27, 2025.

In a significant development, the police have arrested 21-year-old Daniel Tuffuor, reportedly Miss Yabani's boyfriend, in connection with the case. Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, confirmed that security footage played a crucial role in identifying and apprehending the suspect.

“We were able to identify the suspect through CCTV footage on the KNUST campus, and he is currently assisting with the investigation,” DCOP Cudjoe stated.

In light of growing security concerns, the police have heightened their presence across the university. DCOP Cudjoe assured the public, saying, “We are increasing our efforts to ensure campus safety. Officers will conduct round-the-clock patrols and closely monitor activities.”

The Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has personally engaged with KNUST’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, to reaffirm the police's commitment to student safety.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed her deep sorrow over the tragic loss, offering her condolences to the family and the university community. “Waking up to such heartbreaking news is devastating, especially for the parents involved. We are grateful for the swift response from the IGP and the security measures being implemented,” she said.
