Daniel Baidoo, also known as Yaw Tenkorang, has been granted bail with surety by the Asankragwa District Police. He is the primary suspect arrested in connection with the assault on Citi FM’s Western Regional Correspondent, Akwasi Agyei Annim.
The attack took place in the Adomanya Forest within the Wassa Amenfi West District of the Western Region, carried out by illegal miners affiliated with the Dabena Mining Company. Baidoo, believed to be part of the family that sold the Adomanya land to the miners, is alleged to have led a group of galamsey workers who violently attacked Annim and two other journalists on Friday, February 21, 2025. At the time of the assault, the journalists were filming alongside police personnel.
In an interview with Citi News, Chief Inspector Anthony Amponsah, Station Investigator at the Asankragwa District Police Command, explained that Baidoo could not be detained for more than 48 hours without formal charges. He further stated that preparations are underway to bring Baidoo before the court, and efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects are ongoing.
