A resident of Kenyasi No. 2 in the Ahafo Region has been hospitalized after allegedly being injured with a machete by prison officials and inmates of the Kenyasi Settlement Camp Prison.

The victim, Opoku Afriyie, a commercial motorbike rider and sound system operator, is currently being treated at the Asutifi North District Hospital after suffering multiple injuries.

According to Afriyie, the incident, which occurred on Thursday, involved him riding a motorbike with a passenger when he was intercepted by a prison officer and three inmates of the Kenyasi Settlement Camp Prison. The rider alleged that he was accused of stealing yams from the farm of the prison officer.

Afriyie further alleged that the prison officer and the three inmates injured him with machetes, leaving him with serious abrasions on several parts of his body including his arms, legs, belly, neck and other body parts.

The victim also alleged that another prison officer came to his rescue, restrained him with handcuffs and took him to the Kenyasi Settlement Camp Prison.

At the prison, Afriyie claimed that he was beaten up by one of the prison officers before he was handed over to the Kenyasi Police.

The police officers who were present and saw the injuries said he needed to go to the Asutifi North District Hospital for a long-term treatment.

The motorbike rider is still in the hospital after stating that he is facing untold challenges and unbearable pain in his hands and fingers.

### Police investigate

The victim is calling on the authorities to investigate the incident and prosecute those responsible for the injuries.

Afriyie, who is still in the hospital, is also appealing for an economic succor to help him pay the huge hospital bills.

The Asutifi District Police Command, under the leadership of Superintendent Harold Yamoah Ponkor, has opened an investigation into the incident.

The allegations levelled at the prison officials and inmates have not been authenticated, and more disclosures are expected as the police probe progresses.
