💔 He Taught Them to Serve Their Country… Today They Tried to Save His Life

What began as a normal morning class turned into a moment no student at Old Dominion University will ever forget.

Inside an ROTC classroom in Norfolk, Virginia, students were learning from a man who had dedicated his entire life to serving others — Lt. Col. Brandon Shah, a decorated U.S. Army veteran and respected instructor.

Then suddenly… everything changed.

Authorities say 36-year-old Mohamed Bailor Jalloh, a former National Guard member who had previously been imprisoned for trying to support ISIS, walked into the classroom Thursday morning and opened fire.

Witnesses say he shouted “Allahu Akbar” before launching the attack.

Panic filled the room.

But something remarkable happened next.

Instead of running away, several ROTC students — young men and women training to become future military leaders — instinctively rushed toward the danger.

They fought back.

In a desperate struggle to protect themselves and everyone else in the room, the students tackled and subdued the gunman. Law enforcement sources say one student even stabbed the attacker during the fight, stopping the rampage before it could spread further across campus.

The gunman died at the scene.

But in the chaos and bravery… tragedy struck.

Lt. Col. Brandon Shah was killed.

Shah wasn’t just an instructor. He was a mentor, a leader, and a man who had already spent decades serving his country.

He joined the Army in 2003, deployed in both Iraq and Afghanistan, logged more than 600 combat flight hours, and earned multiple honors — including two Bronze Stars.

Yet his greatest mission came after the battlefield: training the next generation of soldiers.

And in his final moments, those very students showed the courage he spent years teaching them.

Two other members of the university community were injured and taken to hospital, but officials say the quick actions of the ROTC students likely prevented an even greater tragedy.

Police received the first calls at 10:43 a.m. Officers arrived within minutes, and by 10:50 a.m. the attacker had already been stopped.

Across campus, terrified students ran through hallways shouting “Shooter!” while others locked themselves inside classrooms.

One student later said:

“My heart dropped. I didn’t know what was happening… I just knew we had to get somewhere safe.”

The FBI is now investigating the attack as an act of terrorism.

As the campus mourns the loss of Lt. Col. Shah, many are remembering him not only as a soldier… but as a teacher who inspired courage in the young people he trained.

And on that terrible morning, when evil walked into their classroom…

His students proved they were listening.

🙏 Rest in peace, Lt. Col. Brandon Shah.

A hero who served his country — and inspired heroes in return.

Would you have had the courage to fight back like these students did?
