CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cavaliers didn’t just lose the Eastern Conference Finals. They were erased.
In a humbling 130-93 demolition Monday night at Rocket Arena, the New York Knicks completed a stunning four-game sweep, handing Cleveland its second-most lopsided playoff loss in franchise history. Only a 38-point defeat in Orlando in 2024 was worse.
Worse than the score? The soundtrack.
Knicks fans flooded the arena and chanted without mercy:
“Knicks in four… Knicks in four…”
Cavs fans can hardly be blamed for their silence—or for selling their tickets. Down 0-3, no NBA team has ever rallied to win a series. For New York, this marks their first trip to the NBA Finals since 1999.
The Knicks are peaking at the perfect moment. After losing to Indiana in last year’s conference finals, they’ve now won 11 straight playoff games, dismantling Atlanta, Philadelphia, and now Cleveland.
Yes, the Cavs blew a 22-point lead in the final eight minutes of Game 1. That was embarrassing. But the entire series told a different story: the Knicks are simply the superior team.
Even if Cleveland had stolen that opener, New York’s relentless offense, offensive rebounding, and playoff killer instinct would have prevailed. Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges, and Karl-Anthony Towns have been unselfish and precise.
Consider the closeout margins:
· First round vs. Atlanta: +51
· Second round vs. Philadelphia: +30
· East Finals vs. Cleveland: +37
The Cavs did enter exhausted, having played 16 games in 32 days after two seven-game series. But their pregame talk of pride and avoiding a home-court sweep rang hollow. They were never going to beat the Knicks.
What about the Cavs?
There is progress. This was Cleveland’s first Eastern Conference Finals since the LeBron James era in 2018. Remove No. 23, and you have to go back to 1992—Mark Price, Larry Nance, Brad Daugherty, and coach Lenny Wilkens.
Donovan Mitchell scored 31 points in 31 minutes, reaching the conference finals for the first time in his nine-year career. That mattered.
But the James Harden acquisition? Troubling. He scored 18 in Game 3 but took zero fourth-quarter shots. In Game 4, he managed 12 points on 2-of-8 shooting. Over the series, he averaged 16 points but had more turnovers (17) than assists (12), shooting 39% from the field and 5-for-28 from deep.
The Cavs have a good roster, not a great one. They lost to New York in the 2023 first round (five games), to Boston in the 2024 second round (five games), and to Indiana in the 2025 second round (five games). Now, a sweep.
There is progress. But for president Koby Altman and the front office, there remains a vast amount of work ahead.
