GREEN BAY, Wis. — Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur declined to provide additional details Wednesday regarding the arrest of running back Josh Jacobs on domestic abuse charges, stating that the organization would continue to rely on its official statement while the legal process unfolds.
Speaking to reporters, LaFleur acknowledged the attention surrounding the situation but emphasized that the team would allow authorities and the legal system to handle the matter.
“I know there are going to be a lot of questions about Josh,” LaFleur said. “I’m going to stick with the statement we put out as an organization and let the process play out.”
When asked whether the Packers were preparing for the possibility of beginning the season without Jacobs, LaFleur noted that significant developments could occur before the season starts.
“A lot is going to happen between now and then,” he said.
LaFleur also declined to confirm whether he had spoken with Jacobs in recent days.
“Respectfully, I’m not going to elaborate on anything,” he stated.
Discussing the running back position more broadly, LaFleur expressed confidence in the current roster while acknowledging the importance of maintaining depth at the position.
“I like the guys that we have, but certainly you can never have enough,” he said.
The Packers head coach reiterated that the organization maintains high standards for player conduct, regardless of ongoing legal matters.
“We always have high standards here,” LaFleur said. “Our players have done a really good job during my time here, and I think Brian Gutekunst and his staff place a strong emphasis on character and bringing in quality people.”
LaFleur declined to provide a timeline regarding when the team might need clarity on Jacobs’ status as preparations for the season continue.
“We’re going to let that process play out,” he said. “I can’t really comment on that.”
He also chose not to discuss how the issue had been addressed internally with players and staff.
“I’m going to keep that between myself and the team,” LaFleur explained.
When questioned about his personal reaction upon learning of the arrest, LaFleur again declined to comment.
Following the discussion surrounding Jacobs, LaFleur shifted focus to football operations and praised running back MarShawn Lloyd for his progress during the offseason program.
“He’s done a nice job, but we’ve only had one practice,” LaFleur said. “The proof will be in the pudding. He has to continue showing consistency throughout organized team activities, training camp, and the preseason.”
LaFleur also commended Lloyd’s resilience after dealing with several challenges and injuries.
“He’s faced some difficult circumstances and fought through a lot of adversity,” LaFleur said. “Players who can remain positive through adversity often grow from those experiences in a meaningful way.”
The Packers have not announced any additional disciplinary action or roster decisions related to Jacobs as the investigation continues.
