Afrobeats superstar Davido has sparked conversations online after speaking candidly about his family background and the lessons he learned from his father, Adedeji Adeleke.
In a recent interview that quickly went viral, the award-winning singer revealed that his father remains his greatest inspiration, especially when it comes to raising children and maintaining family unity.
Davido explained that his late mother, Veronica Adeleke, gave birth to only him and his sister, Sharon Adeleke. According to the singer, he did not realize until he was about eight years old that some of his siblings had different biological mothers.
The “Fall” hitmaker praised his father for creating a loving and united home despite the complexities of a blended family. He noted that the experience deeply influenced his own approach to fatherhood and the way he intends to raise his children.
Speaking during the interview, Davido said:
“My mom had only Sharon and I. She’s like my second mom, and I didn’t even know my mom wasn’t their mom until I was eight years old. I applaud my dad for that because it’s the same thing I want to do for my kids too.”
Davido is currently a father of five children with four women. He shares his first daughter, Imade, with Sophia Momodu, while his second daughter, Hailey, is with Amanda, who is based in the United States. The singer also has a son with UK-based makeup artist Larissa London and twins with his wife, Chioma Adeleke.
The singer and Chioma previously suffered a heartbreaking tragedy following the death of their son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, in 2022.
Fans have since praised Davido for his openness about family, parenting, and the values he hopes to pass on to his children.
