President John Dramani Mahama announced the upcoming change during the official launch of the country’s new E-visa platform at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City.
He revealed that state-of-the-art screening equipment is currently being installed to accelerate passenger processing, reduce terminal delays, and eliminate common travel bottlenecks.
According to President Mahama, the upgrade is a core component of a broader national strategy to modernize Ghana's aviation sector and enhance passenger convenience.
"We are receiving and installing new equipment that will spare travelers using our airports the inconvenience of having to remove their shoes and their belts," President Mahama stated.
The introduction of this advanced scanning technology aligns Kotoka International Airport with global aviation standards. Many major international hubs already utilize advanced imaging technology that allows passengers to undergo thorough, high-security screenings without stripping off personal items.
The aviation upgrade coincides with a sweeping digitalization drive within Ghana's immigration sector. The newly launched E-visa system aims to significantly simplify entry requirements, making Ghana a more accessible and attractive destination for international tourists, global investors, and business travelers alike.
With shorter queues and heightened efficiency on the horizon, these upgrades are expected to solidify Ghana’s position as the premier aviation and tourism hub in West Africa.
