Severe Storms Leave Thousands Without Power in Southwest Michigan

Severe weather sweeping across Southwest Michigan on Friday afternoon left thousands of residents without electricity and caused damage in several communities. Strong storms moved through the region, bringing powerful winds and hazardous conditions that disrupted power supply and affected daily activities for many households.

According to the Consumers Energy outage map, more than 2,600 customers—mainly in southern Calhoun County—lost electricity as the storms intensified. Utility crews began assessing the situation and working to restore power as quickly as possible, though officials warned that restoration efforts could take time due to the extent of the damage.

In addition to the outages reported by Consumers Energy, Indiana Michigan Power also recorded significant disruptions. By around 8 p.m. Friday, more than 2,100 of its customers were still without electricity, based on information provided through the company’s outage tracking system. Power companies are continuing to monitor the situation closely and dispatch repair teams to affected areas.

The severe weather also caused structural and environmental damage in several parts of the region. In the city of Three Rivers, strong winds knocked down trees and damaged property. In one reported incident, a large tree fell onto power lines and struck the roof of a residential home, highlighting the dangerous impact of the storm system. Debris, fallen branches, and damaged infrastructure were also reported in nearby neighborhoods.

Emergency officials urged residents to remain cautious while cleanup and restoration efforts continue. Downed power lines, debris on roadways, and unstable structures can pose serious risks to the public. Authorities advised residents to report power outages to their local utility companies and avoid approaching fallen power lines.
