Ghanaian singer Cina Soul has lodged an official complaint with the Ghana Police Service against actor and television presenter Big Akwes after he made a threatening remark about her during a live broadcast on Bryt TV.
The incident occurred during a controversial segment in which Big Akwes was asked to choose between actress Vivian Jill, evangelist Nana Agradaa, and Cina Soul, in a hypothetical scenario, about who he would “kill.” His immediate response—naming Cina Soul—has sparked widespread criticism and concern.
Reacting to the comment, Cina Soul took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her distress and call for action. She tagged the Ghana Police Service, Member of Parliament Sam George, and the Ministry of Communications in her post, stating:
“@GhPoliceService I’m deeply unsettled by this. I initially chose not to respond to earlier comments because I do not wish to be associated with this individual, but at this point, I feel genuinely threatened.
@samgeorgegh @mocghana I may not know the proper channels to report this, but it’s critical we take a firm stance against this kind of dangerous rhetoric being broadcast on our TV and radio platforms. We must not normalise hate.”
Her statement has since ignited a flurry of reactions online, with many users and industry stakeholders calling for tighter regulations on hate speech and violent commentary within the media space.
The incident has also sparked renewed debate around ethical standards in Ghana’s media landscape, particularly the responsibility of broadcasters and public personalities to avoid promoting harmful or threatening discourse—whether joking or otherwise.
As of now, the Ghana Police Service has not released an official statement on the matter.
