Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, has announced that he will soon expose senior government figures allegedly involved in illegal mining, widely known as galamsey.
Speaking in an interview on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, Aboagye claimed that individuals closely linked to the current administration are deeply engaged in these illegal activities. According to him, the situation reflects a serious failure in enforcement, allowing offenders to operate without fear of consequences.
He stressed that his claims are based on personal observations, describing galamsey as widespread and largely unchecked. He also raised concerns about how excavators used in illegal mining are handled, alleging that authorities are not properly tracking them and, in many cases, return them to operators without accountability.
Aboagye warned that the environmental impact is becoming catastrophic. He pointed out that several rivers across Ghana are heavily polluted, with some no longer flowing as they should—threatening livelihoods and access to clean water.
He further accused the government of prioritizing financial gains over environmental protection, a move he believes will intensify public scrutiny and debate.
“In the coming days, I will name very senior officials—top figures close to this government—who are actively involved in galamsey. Our rivers are dying. Some have stopped flowing entirely because of these actions,” he stated.
This developing story is expected to spark major national conversation as Ghanaians await the promised revelations.
