Lawyer Oliver Barker-Vormawor has issued a strong call to government following Engineers and Planners (E&P)’s takeover of Damang Mines — urging leaders to back the move with clear laws and a long-term national strategy.
Speaking on Joy Prime’s Newsfile, he cautioned that Ghana must not treat such a major development as just another business deal. Instead, he says it should mark the beginning of a well-structured plan to secure Ghanaian control in the mining sector.
According to him, rushing into ownership changes without proper legislation could create confusion and weaken the country’s long-term interests.
Vormawor believes this is a critical moment for Ghana to rethink how it manages its natural resources — shifting from reactive decisions to a deliberate, future-focused approach.
The takeaway:
This isn’t just about Damang Mines — it’s about who truly controls Ghana’s wealth going forward.
π What’s your take — should Ghana push for full local control of its mines? Let’s talk!
