Breaking: Senior Manufacturing Executive Arrested at Kotoka Airport Over Alleged Drug Smuggling Attempt

Officials of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) have arrested a senior manager of a manufacturing company for allegedly attempting to traffic narcotics out of Ghana through the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

The suspect, whose identity has not yet been made public, was apprehended during an intelligence-led operation at the airport. Authorities allege that the prohibited substance was concealed within packaged gari intended for shipment abroad.

According to reports, the suspect holds a top production role within the company and is believed to have overseen the consignment in question. Security operatives intercepted the cargo before it could leave the country.

Investigators say inquiries are ongoing to determine the full details surrounding the attempted export and to establish whether additional individuals may be connected to a wider trafficking network.

This latest arrest adds to a series of drug-related interceptions at the country’s main international airport. In previous years, airport staff have been interdicted over alleged involvement in smuggling activities, and several individuals have faced lengthy prison sentences after being caught with narcotics at KIA.

In a separate but similar case earlier this year, police in the Volta Region reportedly intercepted narcotics valued at over GH¢1 million during a routine stop. The suspect in that case was arrested after officers declined an alleged bribe and conducted a search that uncovered concealed substances in a vehicle.

Security agencies have reiterated their commitment to tightening surveillance at entry and exit points across the country to combat cross-border smuggling and related criminal activities.

Authorities say further updates will be provided as investigations into the airport seizure continue.
