Real Madrid have reassured supporters that Kylian Mbappe is fit for Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League play-off clash against Benfica in Lisbon.
The French forward was an unused substitute during Saturday’s 4-1 La Liga victory over Real Sociedad, raising doubts about his condition. However, head coach Alvaro Arbeloa explained that Mbappe was only rested as a precaution due to minor discomfort. He confirmed the striker has been managing a small issue for some time but is now feeling well and trained on Sunday without problems.
Mbappe, who has netted 23 league goals this season, is expected to lead Madrid’s attack as they seek revenge for their earlier 4-2 defeat to Benfica at the Estadio da Luz. On that occasion, Mbappe scored twice, but a dramatic late goal, including a stoppage-time header from goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin, secured Benfica’s progression.
Madrid will be without Jude Bellingham and Eder Militao through injury, while Rodrygo and Raul Asencio are suspended. Nevertheless, buoyed by strong domestic form, Los Blancos travel to Portugal confident of reaching the last 16.
