Rondale Moore, a former wide receiver for the Arizona Cardinals, has died at the age of 25, according to multiple reports released Saturday. His passing has prompted an outpouring of grief from former teammates, coaches, and organizations across the National Football League.
Moore most recently spent time with the Minnesota Vikings during the 2025 season but was placed on injured reserve before the season began. Over the course of his professional career, he also played for the Atlanta Falcons in addition to his tenure in Arizona.
The Cardinals selected Moore in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. During his three seasons with the franchise, he became known for his speed, versatility, and competitive drive. His ability to contribute both as a receiver and return specialist made him a valuable offensive asset. After his time in Arizona, Moore continued his career in Atlanta before joining Minnesota.
Before entering the NFL, Moore established himself as one of college football’s most dynamic playmakers at Purdue University. As a freshman in 2018, he delivered a standout season, recording 114 receptions for 1,258 yards and 12 touchdowns. His performance earned him first-team All-American honors and national recognition as one of the most electrifying young players in the country.
Louisville head football coach Jeff Brohm, who coached Moore during his collegiate career at Purdue, released a statement reflecting on the impact Moore had both on and off the field.
“Rondale Moore was a complete joy to coach,” Brohm said. “He was the ultimate competitor who never backed down from a challenge. His work ethic was unmatched, and he was a tremendous teammate who could be counted on in any situation. We loved his smile, his energy, and his desire to make those around him better. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”
The Cardinals organization also issued a statement expressing devastation over the loss. The team extended its condolences to Moore’s family, friends, teammates, and all who had the privilege of knowing him, describing him as a special person whose presence would be deeply missed.
Former Cardinals defensive end J. J. Watt shared his sorrow publicly, writing that the news was difficult to comprehend and describing Moore’s death as far too soon. Fellow wide receiver Marquise Brown also posted a heartfelt message, noting that he had exchanged messages with Moore only hours before learning of his passing.
Minnesota head coach Kevin O'Connell said he was heartbroken by the news. Although Moore’s time with the Vikings was brief, O’Connell described him as humble, respectful, and proud of his Indiana roots. He praised Moore’s discipline and resilience, particularly as he worked to overcome injuries throughout his career.
Moore’s death marks a profound loss for the football community. Remembered for his explosive talent, dedication, and uplifting personality, he leaves behind a legacy defined not only by athletic achievement but also by the admiration and affection of those who knew him.
