A communications team member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has disclosed that he chose not to celebrate his birthday on February 27 in solidarity with cocoa farmers whom he believes are facing hardship under the current administration.
In a detailed Facebook post, Aboagye explained that although he traditionally marks his birthday with celebration, he felt unable to do so this year due to what he described as the distressing situation confronting cocoa farmers across the country. According to him, the concerns of farmers have not received the urgent attention they deserve.
He criticized the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), characterizing the party as insensitive to the plight of cocoa farmers. Aboagye stated that he had expected the President to directly address the farmers’ concerns and outline measures to alleviate their challenges. However, he expressed disappointment that such engagement had not occurred.
“I am unable to celebrate my birthday today, knowing that my dear cocoa farmers have still not been listened to, but are rather being gaslighted by this government,” he wrote.
Aboagye further pledged his continued support for cocoa farmers, assuring them that he would stand by them throughout their struggle. He emphasized the need for government action, particularly calling for a reversal of the controversial “haircut” policy, which he believes has adversely affected farmers and other stakeholders.
He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to advocating for what he described as fairness and justice for cocoa farmers, stressing that their welfare remains a national priority that must not be overlooked.
