Nollywood actress Uche Ogbodo has urged mothers to invest in their personal well-being, cautioning against losing their sense of identity while caring for their families.
The actress shared a video highlighting her body transformation and accompanied it with a candid message encouraging women to prioritize themselves alongside their responsibilities as mothers. She emphasized that mothers deserve to feel confident and look good, despite the demands of parenting.
The Hidden Toll of Motherhood
Ogbodo spoke openly about the emotional and physical challenges that often accompany motherhood. According to her, many women gradually lose themselves in the process of nurturing their children and supporting their spouses.
“Sometimes, in the journey of motherhood, we lose ourselves. We give birth. We nurture. We sacrifice. We pour into our children and our husbands until there is nothing left for us,” she stated.
She explained that the constant responsibility of caring for others can lead to exhaustion, stress, and even body shaming. Over time, she noted, this may negatively affect a woman’s confidence and mental health.
The actress further warned that neglecting self-care can strain relationships. She observed that shifts in communication and intimacy may occur when a woman feels overwhelmed or disconnected from herself, potentially creating emotional distance between partners.
Embracing Self-Care and Personal Identity
Ogbodo stressed that motherhood should not come at the expense of a woman’s identity, mental health, or self-worth.
“Motherhood should not cost you your identity. It should not cost you your mental health. And it should not cost you your worth. You are still a woman. You are still beautiful. You are still deserving of care, healing, and softness. Take care of yourself, too. Pour into yourself, too,” she advised.
She concluded with an empowering message, encouraging mothers to remain whole and confident: when a woman is fulfilled and emotionally balanced, she not only shines for others but also for herself.
