NDC Commends NPP for Peaceful Flagbearer Election, Calls for Unity and Democratic Cooperation

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has congratulated the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for conducting a peaceful and violence-free election to select its presidential flagbearer.

In a statement issued on February 1, 2026, the NDC noted the concession statements made by candidates who were unsuccessful in the contest and expressed hope that they would uphold their commitments in the spirit of unity and democracy.

The party also extended a hand of cooperation to the NPP, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among political actors in strengthening and deepening Ghana’s democratic institutions.

The statement, signed by the NDC’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, further commended the Ghana Police Service for its professionalism and efficiency in ensuring security throughout the electoral process.

The New Patriotic Party held its presidential primary on January 31, 2026, to elect a flagbearer ahead of future national elections. Former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, emerged victorious in the contest.

The NDC described the peaceful conduct of the election as a positive signal for Ghana’s democracy and urged all political stakeholders to continue prioritizing national stability over partisan interests.
