Ghana’s Parliament is scheduled to resume sittings today following the Christmas break, with several key national issues expected to dominate proceedings.
Ahead of the reopening, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga held meetings with sector ministers to review and coordinate legislative proposals earmarked for consideration during the current parliamentary session.
Speaking via a post on social media, Mr. Ayariga explained that such consultations are a routine part of preparations at the start of each session. He noted that the discussions focused on aligning ministerial priorities and outlining bills to be presented before the House.
Parliament is expected to deliberate on a number of critical matters, including legislation and statements addressing illegal mining activities across the country. Another major item on the agenda is the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, commonly referred to as the Anti-LGBT Bill, which is anticipated to spark intense debate among lawmakers.
The resumption of sittings signals the beginning of what is expected to be an active session, as Parliament tackles pressing legislative and national policy concerns.
