Paramount Chief of Essikadu, Nana Kobina Nketsiah V, has made a compelling call for the ideals of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, to be fully integrated into the national education curriculum.
Speaking at the 2025 edition of Nkrumahfest, the traditional leader emphasized the importance of instilling Nkrumah's values in the youth to foster a generation of selfless, patriotic, and development-minded citizens.
"When the younger generation is given the opportunity to embrace this way of thinking, it fosters a sense of awareness and purpose that helps them grow into committed, patriotic individuals," Nana Nketsiah remarked.
He underscored the foundational role Nkrumah played in Ghana’s fight against colonialism and oppression. “We cannot achieve true development and freedom if our hands remain tied by our oppressors. Nkrumah came to fight oppression,” he stated firmly.
Nana Nketsiah also challenged Ghanaians to go beyond symbolic celebrations of Nkrumah’s legacy. He questioned the relevance of commemorations that lack actionable follow-through.
“Every year, we gather for Nkrumah celebrations. We listen to speeches, then return to our daily routines. What happens next after this programme?” he asked. “Do we simply go back to life as usual, or do we begin to embody and live by the ideals of Osagyefo?”
The chief’s remarks reignite the national conversation on curriculum reforms and the need for a deeper, more practical engagement with the philosophies of Ghana’s founding father.
