Veteran Yoruba actress Lola Idije has shared heartfelt insights into the realities of single parenting, shedding light on the emotional and financial challenges faced by many single mothers, particularly in Nigerian society.
Speaking candidly, the seasoned Nollywood icon described single motherhood as one of the most difficult journeys a woman can undertake. She emphasized the heavy burden it places on women—ranging from covering school fees to ensuring their children are properly fed—all without reliable support.
“People don’t understand what it means to shoulder everything alone. Many make promises but disappear when you need them the most,” she lamented.
On Trust and Male Behavior
Lola Idije also addressed the issue of trust in relationships, particularly her experiences with men who approach women—especially actresses—without genuine intentions. She criticized the casual and often disrespectful way some men treat women in the industry, revealing that many even place bets on who can win over an actress.
She condemned this mentality, stating that some men believe women—especially public figures—can be bought for as little as ₦500,000. Calling it degrading and hurtful, she warned women to be cautious with whom they trust.
“Most times, betrayal comes from the very people you expect to support you. It’s better to stay guarded than to be misled,” she advised.
Resilience in the Face of Adversity
Despite these challenges, the actress highlighted the resilience of single mothers, saying they continue to persevere for the sake of their children. She described their determination as a testament to strength and sacrifice.
Lola Idije also pointed out that society often unfairly judges women, especially those in the entertainment industry, without understanding their struggles or the choices they are forced to make.
She concluded her message with words of encouragement for women navigating similar paths:
“Life is not easy, but with determination and faith, you can overcome even the toughest situations and raise your children successfully.”
