NPP flagbearer hopeful, Bryan Acheampong, has touted his record of impactful ideas and leadership, claiming responsibility for several major initiatives that he says have brought significant benefits to Ghana.
Speaking to supporters during a campaign interaction, Acheampong described himself as a "solution-oriented leader" whose ideas have transformed both public and private sectors.
“The biggest hotel in Africa is my idea. The longest airport runway in the world is my idea. I solved major problems this country was facing,” he declared.
He highlighted his role in eliminating over 50,000 ghost names from the national payroll through software he claims to have developed. Acheampong also noted that his private businesses now employ more than 1,000 people in his local community.
Challenging fellow contenders in the NPP leadership race, he urged the public to assess the real-world impact of their policies:
“Let Ghanaians examine how your ideas have changed your own communities.”
Acheampong also pointed to his decision to cancel Ghana’s long-standing cocoa syndication loan, a move he said saved the country hundreds of millions of dollars in interest payments.
“Since 1947, we’ve been borrowing $2 billion every year for cocoa at 10% interest—$200 million lost annually. I said, ‘No more syndication,’” he explained.
Despite internal resistance, he says President Nana Akufo-Addo supported the proposal, allowing Ghana to go without syndication in 2024 for the first time in decades.
He outlined the new strategy:
“If you want Ghana’s cocoa, pay upfront. We buy and supply without borrowing or paying interest. It’s simple business logic.”
According to Acheampong, this shift has been profitable, with cocoa buyers now paying deposits and the government even earning interest on those funds.
Concluding his remarks, Acheampong stated that his ability to turn bold ideas into real results makes him the ideal candidate to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) forward.
