Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, a former Member of Parliament for Ledzokuku and current Health Minister, has criticized the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) for allegedly deviating from its campaign promises and instead using state security agencies to suppress political opposition.
Speaking at a protest organized by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Accra on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, Dr. Okoe Boye accused the government of political intimidation and failure to deliver on key development promises.
“The NDC came into office with a message of hope. They promised jobs for the youth, a 24-hour economy, and support for women entrepreneurs through a dedicated bank. Unfortunately, after gaining power, these promises have been neglected,” he stated.
According to Dr. Okoe Boye, instead of implementing policies to stimulate economic growth and job creation, the government is using the police service as a tool of political oppression.
“Today, they are using the police to intimidate Ghanaians. This is not the leadership they promised. I urge the Ghana Police Service: do not allow yourselves to be used by politicians. Remain professional and serve all Ghanaians equally,” he appealed.
The NPP protest was fueled by growing concerns over the recent arrests of prominent party members, including Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi) and Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC). The NPP maintains that these actions are deliberate attempts by the NDC to weaken the opposition and silence dissent.
Dr. Okoe Boye further warned that the government's current trajectory could erode the public goodwill that brought it to power.
“If the government does not refocus on delivering its promises, it risks losing the support of the very people who voted it into office,” he cautioned.
