Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has expressed his appreciation for the warm and enthusiastic reception extended to President John Dramani Mahama and his delegation by the Ghanaian community in New York. The group welcomed the former president as he attended the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
In a social media post following the event, Ablakwa highlighted the deep-rooted cultural pride of Ghanaians, stating, "You can never take out our beautiful culture from the Ghanaian, no matter how far one travels or how long they have been abroad." He went on to thank the Ghanaians in New York, writing, “Thank you, Ghanaians in New York, for the incredible Ghanaian welcome of President Mahama and his delegation attending the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.”
Additionally, Ablakwa used the occasion to celebrate Ghana's Founder’s Day, which coincided with the gathering. "Happy Founder’s Day, Nkrumah’s philosophy of the African Personality lives on," he wrote, paying tribute to Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. Founder’s Day, observed annually on September 21, honors Dr. Nkrumah's pivotal role in Ghana’s independence and his legacy of Pan-Africanism, self-determination, and cultural pride—key elements of the "African Personality" concept.
The celebrations in New York, coupled with the national observances back home, underscored Ghana’s continued dedication to its heritage and international standing.
