Alhaji Masawudu Osman, the third Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has publicly accused the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of dishonesty regarding reports that NDC stalwart Chief Sofo Azorka was arrested.
“The IGP is not telling the truth. Contrary to widespread reports, Azorka has not been arrested—he is moving about freely. Meanwhile, the police are quick to detain members of the NPP for far less serious offences,” Osman stated.
The NPP Vice Chairman condemned what he described as a politically selective application of justice, adding that this was the primary reason for the NPP’s recent protest actions.
“We have taken to the streets because of the blatant bias in law enforcement. Our members are being arrested based on unfounded allegations, while those aligned with the NDC seem to act with impunity,” he emphasized.
Osman specifically mentioned the recent arrest of NPP Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe (Abronye), who was taken into custody following remarks allegedly directed at the IGP.
“Abronye was treated like a common criminal. He was arrested by a special unit typically used for apprehending hardened criminals. All this because of an alleged insult? It’s unacceptable,” he lamented.
He also drew comparisons between Abronye’s treatment and the alleged behavior of Chief Azorka, claiming that Azorka made threats against NPP officials without facing any consequences.
“Azorka confronted me without provocation during a media interview and even threatened me. Although I was physically capable of responding, I exercised restraint. Yet he walks free,” Osman recounted.
The NPP has continued to express concerns over what they claim is politically motivated policing, demanding fairness and accountability in the enforcement of the law.
