Still Traumatized and in Shock’: Eyewitness Speaks Out After Journalist Somtochukwu Maduagwu’s Tragic Death
A woman who lived in the same apartment complex as the late Somtochukwu Maduagwu has spoken out about the traumatic events that led to the tragic death of the journalist.
Somtochukwu Maduagwu, a prominent journalist with Arise TV, lost her life on September 29, 2025, during a violent armed robbery at her residence in Katampe Extension, Abuja. Her death was confirmed in an official statement released by Arise TV via their X (formerly Twitter) account.
The incident has shocked many across Nigeria, as new details continue to emerge.
Resident Recounts the Attack
One of the residents, identified by her X handle @Lifegivingsun, described the terrifying ordeal. According to her, the robbery occurred around 3 a.m., when four armed men broke into the building wielding machetes and guns.
She revealed that she was caught off guard and was naked at the time the attackers stormed in. Describing the aftermath, she wrote:
“They robbed all 18 flats in my building — cash, electronics, two cars (one being a diplomatic car). They killed two people — Sommie and a security guard. Still traumatized and in shock 💔.”
Maduagwu’s Death and Planned Celebrations
According to X user Charlie Of Umana, Maduagwu had plans to celebrate her 30th birthday and her wedding in just two months. He shared that during the chaos, she reportedly fell from a building, which left her unconscious.
Both Maduagwu and the security guard were rushed to Maitama District Hospital for urgent treatment. However, relatives have claimed that the hospital delayed medical assistance, insisting on identification documents before attending to the victims — a delay they believe contributed to the tragic deaths.
Outpouring of Grief
News of Maduagwu’s death has sparked an outpouring of grief across social media, with colleagues, friends, and viewers expressing condolences and demanding justice. Many have criticized the state of security and emergency response systems in the country.
As the investigation continues, the incident serves as a grim reminder of the growing insecurity in urban residential areas and the urgent need for reforms in emergency healthcare access.
